If you have friends, relatives, work colleagues or acquaintances in Cyprus and you want to be sure you know how best to keep in contact with them, there are just a few things to bear in mind. Remember that you’ll be 2 hours behind your contacts in Cyprus when you’re in the UK on GMT – this applies whatever part of the country they are located in.
Cyprus generally has over a dozen public holidays throughout the year, so it may be worth targeting these for your calls. If you’re calling someone who will be receiving your calls on a mobile phone, they will likely be on one of the two main networks in the country, so you should be able to get through to them pretty reliably. The main mobile networks are Vodafone’s CytaMobile and MTN.

If you’re calling a work telephone or a telephone connecting to someone you know but will not be speaking to them directly, you may naturally find yourself speaking to a Cypriot person on the other end of the line. People from and living in Cyprus generally speak either Greek or Turkish, partly depending on which part of the island they originate from. You may also be lucky and get someone who can speak English, which is very widely spoken by many people in the country.
When you do go to call Cyprus, the code is 00 357, so be sure to enter this before your required telephone number. There is a single main land-line telephone operator in Cyprus, called Cyta, so getting your call connected should generally be no problem. Many people of course now have relations staying in and around the Mediterranean – if you have some in Cyprus, you don’t have to worry about any difficulty keeping in good contact with them.
